COCKROACHES
Ally is always dependable always innovative
Cockroaches are scavenging insects that are closely associated with people, taking advantage of the food, water, and shelter sources we unintentionally provide them. Cockroaches are prolific breeders and can become a huge problem inside of homes and businesses. Although they don’t harm humans directly their bodies carry pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Here in Texas, we deal with several types of cockroaches, including those listed below.
American Roach
American cockroaches normally live outdoors and prefer warm, damp areas like flowerbeds, under mulch, and weep holes. These roaches enter homes to find water or food. They can easily pass under doors if the weather stripping is damaged. They often go to bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms when inside. Adults can grow to around 50 mm and are reddish brown or mahogany colored. Both male and female can fly when their wings develop when they are adults. Life cycle of 5 1/2 months for the American roach make it one of the slow species of roaches. Also their average capsules carries only 16 eggs.
German Roach
German Cockroaches are one of the most common structure infesting roaches and the hardest to eliminate. Adults are light brown or tan coloration with two black horizontal stripes immediately behind the head and reach between 13-16 mm. Nymphs or young german roaches are harder to identify being almost black with little distinction from other roaches. Their choice of habitat is dark humid areas typically in kitchens and bathrooms but will move into other rooms if food and moisture is available. German roaches hitch hikers and are seldomly found outside. They typically are introduced inside homes from being transported in from appliances, grocery store produce, electronic components, and anything else that is carried in. Populations can explode due to quick life cycles and females laying up to 40 eggs in a single capsule. Special care and treatment is needed if German cockroaches are found inside your home. DIY methods will never solve a German roach problem. Ally Pest and Termite uses various methods each time while tackling a German roach infestation.
Brown Banded Roach
Much like the German roach Brown Banded roach are an invasive species preferring the indoors to the outdoors. These colorful roaches received their name from the light brown or tan transverse bands that are present on the wings of the adult and across the body of the young. Adults sizes range from 11-14 mm They prefer dry warm locations inside like closets, pantries, and electronic components. Although they are opportunistic feeders they prefer high starch content like book bindings, wallpaper, and other paper products. Life cycles are longer stretching out to 90 days from hatching to being able to reproduce but can typically live longer than other roach species.
Oriental Roach
The adults of the oriental cockroach are very different in appearance and neither the male nor female is capable of flight. They range from 25 - 32 mm long and vary from black to reddish brown color. They are primarily an outdoor pest finding cover in mulch, beneath rocks, in wall voids, and in crawl spaces. Life cycle has a large range depending on the season which ranges from 24-130 weeks from egg to adult.
